In April 2009, the Institute of Directors carried out a survey into businesses’ experience of bank lending as a result of the credit crunch. This revealed that some 53% of respondents had experienced tougher lending conditions since the start of 2009.
A follow up survey in August 2009 showed that conditions were still difficult with 42% saying that things had become tougher again since April.

One outcome of the August survey was that respondents identified some training needs – managing the relationship with their banks, managing growth and managing credit. In response to this, the Institute, in collaboration with Invest NI and the British Bankers Association produced a useful online guide to dealing with the banks – you can access this at www.nicrunchtalk.com.
A seminar is being organised as part of Money Week in the Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen on 11 March at 12.30-2.15pm. Speakers from the IoD, Paradigm Niche Planning, Invest Northern Ireland and the British Bankers Association will address the results of the latest survey, the environment that the banks are operating in and the options for accessing business finance and support.
